September 2019 Update, New Bible Study on Genesis and Evolution
October and fall is in the air! What a beautiful time of the year to treasure God’s creation as the trees and plants go through their changes. Starting next week I will be teaching another class on Your Reformation Walk at my home congregation. I really like teaching this class as it takes me back to the several trips my wife and I have made to the Saxon lands that really increased our knowledge of the Reformation. The sad part about that remembrance is that our dear friend, Dieter Osterburg, passed away last January from cancer. I have known Dieter since 1972 when we met at an international panel meeting. It was Dieter who invited us to come for a personal tour of Luther land back in the mid-90’s. We were unable to go at that time due to our busy lives with our consulting company, but the year after retirement in 1997 we flew to Munich to start the tour. Dieter had made all the arrangements and was an excellent guide and historian for us. When we returned from the two week trip I pondered what to do with all the materials we had brought home with us. They had to be shared, thus the genesis of Your Reformation Walk was at hand.
The first version was more of a pamphlet and only covered the major buildings we had seen on our trip. Subsequent trips covered some of the same ground but new areas such as Dresden and Prague were included. With each trip the pamphlet grew larger until it became a book. In 2008 it leveled off and only grew larger when I enlarged the early church history section. Our dear friends, Dieter and his wife Ursula, accompanied us on all four trips except when we went to Prague. In a way this book is dedicated to the Osterburgs as they appear in several graphics, and to his memory. Oh, yes, part of the theme of this book is to help prepare you for a trip to Saxony. Try to add such a trip to your personal Bucket List, you won’t regret the experience.
Some minor adjustments were made to the chapters now available on the website and I will update those soon.
Here is what is new:
- A new Bible study has been completed titled Our Creator God, Genesis Revisited. This is a study I have really wanted to do, but time and the right materials were not within easy reach. Then in the wink of an eye they were! So now the study is finished and can be downloaded at the link below. This study is intended for Jr. high youth and on up to any age. It revisits Creation and the Flood and then contrasts those two major events with what the world believes and promotes. Scientific evidence is provided to justify the “young earth” of Genesis and goes on to the issues with Carbon 14 and other forms of dating. Did you know there are species that don’t evolve? See the results of research in this area. Added to the study is a mix of quotes from scientists, philosophers and theologians. The study comes in PowerPoint format that is fully animated, with added coloring and some interesting graphics. https://churchmatterssolutions.org/bible-studies-on-the-books-of-the-bible/
