Greetings, and my apology for the lateness of this update.
Like most folks on the West Coast we have been suffering from bad air from all the forest fires and that contributed to the tardiness of this update. The main reason, however, was a “gift” from all the physical work of moving in February. I wound up with a bulging disk in my lower back that at first slowed me down and then my left leg became useless. This resulted in a 5-day stay in the hospital while they considered surgery. In the end they decided on rest, medication and PT. I am doing okay, but still very limited in what I can do physically for some time to come.
So, what is new?
Actually, nothing is new other than the completion of the Jonah Bible study with two pastors requesting and receiving copies of the study. One pastor is a chaplain working with wounded vets who need to reduce thinking of “self” and move on to being active where they can in volunteering. Jonah is a good tool for that purpose.
In progress is a new Study titled Worship and Adiaphora that will consist of five PowerPoint lessons. Completion date is set for mid-Sept. This study traces the history of worship form the early Old Testament and how that has influenced the New Testament churches in the form of church structures, music and ceremonies. There are also several instances of embedded music to illustrate chanting and other music forms during these periods. The final lesson centers on adiaphora in Lutheran churches and how that ties to our historical roots and our confessions.
Continued blessings in your walk, Gene White
